One of the many projects I have in the works is a collection of short stories about equality and the myriad of forms it can take. I endorse no other philosophy beyond strongly enforced equal opportunity for everyone. How you use or abuse your opportunity is up to you. My goal is for all Americans to have to freedom to succeed or fail according to their abilities.
I believe all people are not equal. We all have different skill sets and talents. If you are tone deaf, can’t dance and can’t remember shit for more than a few minutes then an opportunity in music is not a good idea. Find your talent and exploit it.
Some stories may point out the absurdity of pure equality. Especially representative equality. For example, some folks demand an increase in the number of minorities in certain positions to better reflect the racial make up of our country. Coaching and head office positions in professional sports organizations such as the NBA and NFL come to mind. This is indeed a problem that needs to be remedied. However if you raise the number of black coaches and executives to correspond to the 13% black Americans make up of the population, then you must decrease the number of black athletes to 13%.
This would go over like a fart in church. Why, you ask? Because certain elements have spent a lot of time and energy convincing young black kids that their only way out of the hood is sports or entertainment. This creates an inexhaustible market for their products.
We must continually strive for equality, every day, in our thoughts and actions. Quotas and requirements are just band aids on a bullet wound. We need Celox.
