I see a problem, my brain starts generating a myriad of possible solutions. Since I have no box, all the ideas are where you’d expect.
I’ve been watching videos about Government Regulations. Like most people seeking balance in this chaotic world, I have mixed feelings. I’ll go into more detail in a few minutes.
But, after contemplating the ifs for a few minutes, I boiled the entire issue of Government Regulation, Is it Good, Bad or Just Plain Ugly?
It all boils down to whether you trust your Government or not. Do you know in your heart of hearts that, that regulation, whatever it may be, is there solely to benefit We The People? Or does it benefit a Big Corporation so they can clear another billion in profit? Maybe it’s used to punish a certain group? Does it give preferential or unwarranted treatment to certain individuals or groups? Did your Congressperson spend a weekend in the Caribbean with a lobbyist? You’d love a vacation like that. If you didn’t work two jobs. 1 for the bills and the other to pay for daycare so you can work the day job. (It’s awesome that your Mom or Sister will watch the baby at night so you can work the “Pays for Daycare” job. BTW)
Do you really think that?
The right regulations for the right reasons are essential pieces of a functioning system. It protects We the People from greedy predators that try to get over in us while we busy just getting by or worse.
How do we fix this?
Imagine that we are truly a government for the People , of the People and by the People. A hulking brute of enlightened government keeping the wolves at bay and the barbarians at the gate. So We The People can enjoy our life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in a safe, responsible fashion. What would that GOVERNMENT do?
That Government could,
All lobbying will be done at frequently held conversations specific to certain issues, regulation or whatever. All Congresspersons will receive the same info from all viewpoints at the same time in the same place. And it will all be on the public record. No more backroom, fuck We The People, gimme money and bitches, guaranteed mid six figure executive no show job when you get kicked out of office bullshit.
Now all that money the Business Giants would spend on lobbying needs to go some where. Those fancy cars need drivers. Those beds in the carribean need a We The People to sleep in it. Don’t they?
We could take all that wonderful things certain parties were trying to bribe our employees with. We could. But I think having those parties use that to fund programs to train and educate people in their feild. Aimed specifically at We The People that could benefit from career training in a feild they may not have previously exposed to.
Or maybe with less money being spent on lobbying the corporations could do the right thing and lower prices. That is a lot of money they don’t need to make. The overpaid executives will still get their piles of money they didn’t earn. You take the good with the bad But We The People might end up with some extra much needed cash because sodas are half what they were. Cigarettes at $5? It’s possible.
If they don’t want to lower prices? They could use that money and pay their non-executive and hourly employees better. It’s just a thought.
I could trust that Government to act on my behalf.
