The biggest obstacle facing true, lasting change is the existence of the Republican and Democrat parties. Our evenly divided country will continue to be fed the illusion of choice and be forced to vote for one guy only because “he isn’t the other guy”. This has to end. Immediately, if not sooner.
So Chef, how are we going to do this? They are two sides of the same coin. They control everything, they would never agree to something like this.
All of this would written into the new Constitution 2.0. We will discuss all that later.. Remember, if it wasn’t broke I would not be thinking of solutions.
Get rid of the two and establish 5 permanent parties. One each for the four corners of the political spectrum and one in the middle. Smaller parties give better representation and no one party could have a permanent majority. With only three parties, two could gang up and suppress the third. Hi Libertarian friends, With five, it’s impossible for three parties to cooperate enough to suppress two parties. Since no party could have a majority, we can chuck the Electoral College. It’s no longer needed.
And after my next idea, we won’t have the money issue either.
The parties will be required to raise equal amounts of money to be put into a kitty to pay for equal media representation, air time etc. All advertising is handled by an established Election Oversight Team. No placards, signs or the other trash that politicians leave along the road for others to clean up. Shirts, hats stickers, signs at rally, all this is fine and at the parties discretion.
By removing the money problem, candidates can no longer win simply because they have more money. They might have to actually run on their merits.
These politicians are supposed to work for us. Right? Campaigning should be like a job interview. What are your real qualifications?
The debates will be two candidates, head to head. Live on national TV. But not just a debate! There’s gonna be a test! What do these people know about how government works? How well do they know their constituents? The very people they are asking to vote for them. Are they complete dumbasses? We need to know in an objective fashion.
Each parties primaries will be like college hoops brackets. At the party finals the winner goes to the….
PRESIDENTIAL FINALS
The losers of each party go to the wild card round and voters choose a candidate from the four parties they don’t belong to. That winner goes on to the PF round. This will get voters to pay attention to the opposing viewpoints and theoretically help people in opposing parties find common ground.
The Presidential Finals will be one round of three 1 on 1 debates. Even harder than previous rounds. All of this would be handled by the Election Oversight Team. More on the EOT later.
After the Final Three, the winner and his running mate obviously become Pres and Vice-Pres. The losers go cry in the walk-in.
I kind of like the idea of the two losers publicly giving up their positions in the party and/or government and become the Left and Right Jokers . Serving the same purpose as Jesters or Consigliere. If you were unaware, Jesters were the only ones allowed to talk shit to, make fun of or disagree with the King. Our former Commander in Peach desperately needed one. They ofter had the effect of reigning in a nutty monarchs insanity.
