Besides getting rid of lobbyists, political appointees are a major problem for this country. The basis of the good old boy network. Scratch my butt and I’ll scratch yours. Bomb makers kick out a few vacations and a Lambo or two and become Secretary of Defense. Favors here, a blind eye there and you can push “your” agenda at the cabinet level.
Appointed by the President and approved by the Senate. The Presidents team, the home team, will extol the virtue of the hopeful appointee, we will call them the HO for HOpeful, while the away team will do everything in their power to attack the HO, personally, spiritually and sometimes even factually. It’s American politics at its ugliest. Desperate bids for power. The games of the ruling elitists.
I don’t have a problem with the idea of appointees. Staffing a kitchen by bringing in people you know and can verify their skills and work ethic is a Chef thing for sure. But my kitchens have only 1 direction. My direction. Our Government is going in all directions, at once. Going nowhere but still going down.
I think the appointees should have to apply for the job with We the People. A televised debate /interview where the HO would be tested on the standardized questions for the position. Then, over the following week, voters can submit question or concerns for the HO to answer at a follow up interview the next week. After the call back second interview the voters vote Yay or Nay.
