When I was growing up it was ok to be special in very limited and strict conditions. You could be special to your Mom and Dad (you’re our special little guy). Or maybe you had a special place that you liked. That nobody else should see. But mostly special meant short busses, separate classes, a second Olympics and a bunch of people who like hugs. Things most people didn’t understand much less appreciate or accept.
Side note. As I get older I am often envious of these “special” people. Special because they get to stay in their own little world in their heads and not have to deal with the stupidity of our world.
Now days everyone wants to be special. Or more to the point, they want special treatment. They are screaming at anyone in front of them”i am a special unique individual and I demand to be treated specially by everyone I come in contact with. Even if they have no idea who or what I am. Today. They should know. “
And our Government is doing many things to make their special dreams a reality.
If we are so hung up on special and accommodating these special people and their special needs. Why are we continuing to teach our children like it’s a one size fits none educational onesie?
It’s a proven scientific fact that all people do not learn the same. Look it up. I’m sure their some education deniers out there that believe everyone can be taught the same way. These same folks think waterboarding is an effective nasal decongestant. “It’s like a big neti pot.”
Why are we not constructing an educational system that focuses on everyone learning. Not just those who are easier to teach because they fit a certain educational model and thus get better test scores. While the rest are left to rot by the wayside.
