In my kitchen, I am THE AUTHORITY.
Far too many Chef’s will say they are the Authority simply because they got hired to fill the position of Chef. That’s what Politicians are saying. “Hey, I tricked a bunch of uninformed voters to choose me. That makes me the authority”. What a bunch of shit.
Line cooks, like pit bulls, require a strong hand to control or they will eat you alive. Seriously. They have to know that you can out cook, out fight, out drink, out fart and out live them at any time. Hung over, busted knee, missing finger, fighting with the owners, whatever the situation. They know that you can step in and carry the line through the weeds at a moments notice when they get behind.
And not be a total dick about it.

Authority, like respect, should be earned. Those who can’t earn it, demand it. Usually by force. Or lies. Or both.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a government that when a politician type person says “follow me, Rafiki knows the way! I can get us there.” Our first thought is not “you lieing, bitch.” Instead, we feel excited, interested and involved. We have confidence that this person is who they say they are and will do their best to make positive changes. Own their mistakes when necessary as well as spread the credit to those who deserve it.
I think those are referred to in some circles as honesty and integrity.
Also. We need to think of a new term for “politicians” in regards to the kind of politicians we need to make shit happen. In my ears “politician” is tainted. It causes disharmony in the universe. Maybe Poli~2.0?
The kind of people that have done things to earn the authority they ask for.
Not the type of person who hasn’t done anything, yet lies about who is to blame for their failures while demanding our obedience.
