Yet another annoying by-product of our new woke/cancel culture, one of which I have been personally affected by, is the tendency to view everything from the perspective of “who is going to get offended by that?” I can’t look at anything lately without that thought going through my mind. Quickly followed by ” how did they not see that?” Not that the majority of hard worker normal folks give two shits and a rat’s ass about most dumb shit. But, there are those people who seem to think it’s their life’s work to point out the flaws of everyone and everything around them without accepting that they are just as flawed, if not more, than everyone and everything else. You know a few of those “holier than thou” people, don’t you? If not, I’d start with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
One of these things I have noticed and as our country/world is now days, this small thing could derail and ruin an otherwise pretty awesome thing. What is this fatal flaw in amazingness, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you.
Apple TV Plus has this great show called “See”. Jason Mamoa, Dave Bautista and Alfrie Woodard are the names you might recognize. The basic backstory is at some point a virus ravages the Earth and all the survivors and the generations after are struck blind. So everyone in the show is blind. Lot’s of amazing combat sequences. Lot’s of blind folks traveling long distances. All done in a totally believable way. Apparently they have blind people as part of the production staff to teach the actors how to do it right. All in all, it’s a great show. Except……
One of the major characters is, at the beginning of the show, is a man named Jerlamarel. One of a handful of sighted people in the world. Hunted as witches the sighted live in hiding from the Queen’s Witchfinders. Jerlamarel, who is dark skinned, takes it upon himself to bring sight to the world by traveling the world getting random girls pregnant and dipping out before the kid’s are born. Leaving the mother to raise the children, who are sighted by the way, in a world that hates them and wishes them dead. While he does leave lot’s of books for the kid’s to learn from, at least the main two children, as well as instructions to find him someday. Others didn’t fare so well.
Now while myself and most not idiots out there will see past this stereotypical behavior of black fathers. Because we know for a fact that shit fathers run the entire spectrum of skin tone. Many social justice warriors will indeed take offence at this and feel the need to do something about this. But in a stunning display of karmic retribution, said shit head absent father gets his eyes pushed back into his head by Khal Drago. So there is that, I guess.
Hopefully nobody but me notices this, lol. But I am sure if I took the time to scour the interwebs, I would find someone pissed off about this.
