Please read this article. Then I will try and make some sense of what is going on here. If I can.
I’m a firm believer in the idea that just because I don’t understand something doesn’t mean it’s not valid or real for other people. It goes back to my realization that not everyone is me or has had the same journey through life that I have. In my life I have been picked on, excluded, ridiculed and made to feel inferior for many things both real and imagined. But I always tried to realize that the thoughts of others DO NOT DEFINE WHO OR WHAT I AM. Nor have I ever demanded that the world change in order to make me happy. Maybe Gen – Xers are a tougher breed. I mean we grew up in a world that could end at the press of a button. Children and young adults today’s seem to think the world is going to end if someone looks at them funny. How did we get to this point?
Once again we have people who don’t live in the real world demanding special treatment and not realizing that it works both ways. This priveledged rich kid is upset by the fact that hard working union workers are invading his special little world in order to make sure that he does not freeze during the cold Ohio winter. Shame on them for not clearing it with him beforehand.
As for his complaints about the college not doing it in the summer. Well, Special Person, it seems the college made special accommodations for you to have your safe place and hide from the big bad world. What more do you want? Not everything happens in the time frame we want. That’s life. I didn’t want my new patio doors to take 4 months to get installed but that’s just how things are.
As for his complaints about the workmen. Well, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of transgender steam fitters out there. Maybe you can find some instead of complaining about it. It’s a fact of life that the vast majority of tradespeople are cisgender males. You are just going to have deal with it.
Maybe, like you wanted, they can take your radiator out. Then you can complain about being descriminated against while you are freezing over the winter. Or maybe you can suck it up and deal with the consequences of your actions.
Our society is in need of balance. This is not the way. We are spending so much time and energy trying to placate these special snowflakes that we are ignoring the people who really need to be given special treatment to improve their lives and the lives of their communities.
