Once held up as the pinnacle of Progressive policy. The mission to provide health care to millions of uninsured Americans had been achieved. We did it! Or more to the point. They did us.
I can only speak for The Maryland Healthcare Exchange and what it has to offer. But with the Democrats’ love of conformity I’d venture to guess that most of the states are pretty much the same.
In order to obtain an affordable insurance policy and avoid the penalty and shaming of your liberal friends and family you were pretty limited in choice that we could believe in. Any policy costing less than a weeks paycheck carried a hefty deductible you had to pay out of pocket before the policy covered a damn thing. $260 a month with a $2500 deductible is not affordable. Unless you are rich. We the People are not all that rich. If I had to pay $2500 before insurance kicks in. I couldn’t. No way in hell could I make that happen. My policy with zero deductible, $20 visits, good enough Doctors, started at $375 and went up to $615 in 3 years. That is over a weeks pay for a lot of people.
But I have insurance, right?
Remember to always look for who actually benefits. Did Americans get healthcare they could afford? Affordable for Americans making over $100,000 a year I sure. Did insurance companies and the politicians they purchased make bank? Hell yes they did! So after strong arm tactics forcing everyone to get insurance no matter what, this is how its being spun for the history books
